Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin

The government will not tolerate irresponsible developers, according to Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin, Minister of Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing.

The Minister was talking to the residents of Jalan Datuk Sulaiman 1 in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur, who planned a protest against the developer of a three-storey semi-detached project for the use of their housing road.

The Taman Tun Residents Association said that their residential area would be overcrowded if an access road was constructed using Jalan Datuk Sulaiman 1.

Resident Raja Nong Chik said that Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) had already released a stop-work order to the developer one month ago, but work had still continued at the site.

“DBKL officers have also put up barriers to prevent them from using the residential road but the developer had removed these barriers twice. Some of the officers were even threatened by them.”

“The developer has refused to communicate with the residents and some residents have even been harassed and verbally abused,” he said.

He added that DBKL had already provided an alternative road with access from the Penchala Link and the developer just needed to wait for three months for the necessary approval.

“I will discuss with Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Ahmad Fuad Ismail to see if we can take legal action against the developer.”

“DBKL will put up barriers again on Tuesday to prevent them from using Jalan Datuk Sulaiman 1,” Mr. Chik said.

Phillip Lee, another resident, said they were pleased with the explanation given by the minister for now.

“The project started about six months ago and even though they were not supposed to, construction vehicles were using our roads to get in and out of their development.”

“We are against them using not only the main road but also our back lanes,” said Mr. Lee.
