Consumer Price Index for Malaysia, 2008

There are portions of prices in Malaysia that has gone down, particular in clothes, but portions increase, in particular, alcohol and tobacco. The Malaysian Government reports the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in Malaysia for 2008.

Using the year 2005 as its benchmark, the Consumer Price Index in Malaysia has seen the hike in certain industries and sector, as portrayed in this three pictures.

Consumer Price Index for Food and Non-alcoholic beverages, Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco, Clothing and Footware, Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels. For 2008, a hike of 6.9 in index to 113.0 can be seen on Food and non-alcoholic beverages as compared to 2007 which bears only 106.5, hike of 7.7 in index to 120.3 as compared to 115.2 for alcoholic beverages and tobacco in 2007, a slight decrease of 0.3 to 97.0 in 2008 as compared to 97.3 in clothing and footwear, and a rise of housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels of 102.8 in 2007 to 104.0 in 2008 of 1.4 in index.

In Furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance, a rise of 2.0 of index points to 104.0 from 102.2, price index for health hiked from 103.7 to 105.4, going up 1.9 points from 2007, Transport price index rose 6.7 in index points from 113.6 in 2007 to 121.0 in 2008, decline in price index for Communication from 97.4 in 2007 to 96.9 with the difference of negative 0.6 index points, and Recreation services and Culture price index rose from 2.1 index points to 103.5 in 2008 as compared to 2007 which is only 102.1.

The Price index for Education rose from 103.4 in 2007 to 105.5 bearing 2.1 in index points, Restaurant and Hotels rose to a stunning 7.0 from 107.5 to 113.4, and Miscellaneous goods and services rose from 103.2 in 2007 to 106.2 in 2008 bearing 3.4 in index points.
