Malaysia Consumer Price Index 2006-2008

Consumer Price Index (CPI) for January to May 2008 faced a massive increase of 2.9 per cent to 108.1 compared with that of 105.1 in the same period last year. On the same month in 2007, the CPI increased by 3.8 per cent from 105.1 to 109.1 and compared to the previous month, bearing 0.8% CPI growth.

The index for Food & Non-Alcoholic Beverages for the month of May 2008 compared to the same month in 2007 showed high percentage change of 8.2 per cent, meanwhile the index for Non-Food increased by a stunning 1.8 per cent. The period of January to May 2008 showed increases in the index for Food & Non-Alcoholic Beverages of 5.5 per cent and Non-Food 1.6 per cent.
